The art of double-tracking: Butch Vig on recording Nirvana’s ‘In Bloom’
Double-tracking is one of my favourite recording techniques, and is exactly as simple as it sounds: just record something twice.
Small differences in the performances add subtle warmth & depth, adding fullness and richness without sounding processed.
Traditionally used to great effect on vocals and guitars - try experimenting with extreme panning for different effects.

old trick that has become very intuitive with todays spin on music creation. wow, that took me back. lol
It sounds fantastic on In Bloom - I just hate the Elliott Smith-style usage in a more intimate setting…
