It is pentatonic, but it uses the slightly detuned pitches of the traditional balinesian gamelan, not the equal tempered scale of the modern western clavier!

This ‘experiment’ was originally done by a Professor of Music Psychology somewhere in British Hong Hong back in the 1920′s….
