The press release is out there, and word is gradually getting around – well actually, to be completely honest it’s been getting around for a while now! We tried to do a “soft launch” but people have been getting excited and discussing it online already – which is a good problem to have, right ?
If you’re signed up to my newsletter, or support Dynamic Range Day, the chances are you’ve already heard about it. If not though, the video above gives a good summary of what it’s all about – or, you can check out the information page, here.
Find the ‘loudness sweet spot’ for your music
In a nutshell, Perception is a “one-click reality check” – thanks to user and beta-tester Sigurdór Guðmundsson for that quote ! It allows synchronized, realtime “before and after” comparisons of any audio processing chain (including external hardware processing, if you use it), loudness-matched using the new EBU R128 international standard.
If you’re a regular reader you’ll already know the importance of level-matching – and of course you can do it by hand, with a little effort and ingenuity. But as one user said, “getting consistent results means constant tweaking and takes up a lot of time. This thing makes the whole process fluid and effortless!”
Perception has already achieved a 10/10 review by MusicTech Magazine, and their coveted Excellence Award – there are more reviews in the pipeline and all the feedback we’ve had so far has been hugely positive, with phrases like “game-changer” being regularly used. This is great for us – after over a year in development since I announced it at AES Mexico last year, it’s really satisfying to know that people are finding the plugin as helpful and powerful as I always hoped it would be.
To find out more about what Perception is and how it could help you hear past the “loudness deception”, check out the information page here:
– and I’ll leave you with one of my favourite quotes from Mike Hillier’s MusicTech review:
“Perception won’t suddenly make your mixes or masters sound better. But it might help you become a better engineer, and that has far more value”
