How to use VST plugins in Pro Tools

Pro Tools and VST plugins don’t mix, right?

Wrong !

I’ve been talking to lots of people on Twitter today, giving them a sneak preview of some very cool Mastering Plugins I’m going to be recommending to you soon, and it’s surprised me how many people don’t realise that it IS possible to use many VST plugins in Pro Tools.

The answer is simple – you need the FXpansion VST to RTAS Adaptor.

It’s very simple to use – simply install and run. It will scan through all the VST plugins on your system and attempt to create RTAS “wrapper” versions to use in Pro Tools.

This process is a little hit and miss – it depends on the coding of the original plugin – but once the scan is finished you’re given a clear report of which plugins worked and which didn’t.

And in my experience, if a plugin is successfully wrapped, it will probably work in Pro Tools. The RTAS to VTS Adaptor is PC and Mac compatible, (both Intel and PowerPC) and is very affordable, especially when you think of all those quirky little free VSTs you’ll be able to play with, once you’ve got it !

Highly recommended.
