unlock the potential of your music

What are your favourite sites for music or audio ?

I’m curious – what are your favourite sites for music recording or mixing, and why ? Are there any sites you visit every day, or make sure you read absolutely every post from ?

How about forums ? Where do you like to hang out ? Where do you think the best conversations happening ?

I’m interested in quality, not quantity – we all know sites that post huge numbers of posts and only one in a hundred is a gem – I’m interested to know what you think is the cream of the crop.

Answers in the comments, please – you can see some of my suggested sites in the second column of this site, and there are more on the Production Advice Resources page – but for what it’s worth, my top three sites at the moment (in no particular order) are:

RecordProduction.com

This site is dangerous ! So many great interviews with so many great producers, so little time… all in HD. An audio fanatic’s dream come true. Just don’t visit unless you have a few hours to spare…

Home Studio Corner

Joe’s theme is that anyone can get excellent results in a “home” studio, with a little care and attention, and I couldn’t agree more. Many so-called professional studios would do well to pay attention to this “Home Studio” site.

The Music Of Sound

Regular readers will know this is probably my favourite blog – I just love it. Featuring an eclectic mix of posts that are by turns fascinating, cool, amusing and often thought-provoking, all with a common thread of music, audio, film and art. One of the only sites I genuinely find inspiring.

OK, now how about you ? What are your favourite sites for music and audio, and why ?

http://www.createdigitalmusic.com – Peter Kirn writes well about all things digital music, from circuit-bending to Max/MSP hacks.

http://blog.bleep.com – Lots of interviews with great electronic music producers

http://www.synthtopia.com – Unending flood of links, reviews, news, videos. RSSing this is dangerous, you’ll be stuck for hours daily.

    Ahhh so many..

I probably check these at least every week and some almost daily.
I also subscribe to all their RSS feeds so I don’t miss anything.

Audiogeekzine.com – Jon always has interesting stuff to read.
homestudiocorner.com – Joe gives practical everyday advice to home studio folks
homerecordingshow.com The three guy’s (Jon, Ryan & Jesse) are always humourous but give good advice for all levels of studio owner
ronansrecordingshow.com – Ronan C.M. has some cool videos (although large downloads) again with great advice from a pro studio geek.
SoundonSound.com – One of the best Magazines out there and their site is also full of great news, reviews and advice.

There are also others – I could go on for pages… but will leave it here for now. ;-)

gearslutz.com – Huge forum with more than 90.000 members.

i usually check http://www.cratekings.com/ … awesome videos, also related to dj’ing, sampling and lots more.

and on the forum side i like to visit dogs on acid’s the grid, http://www.dogsonacid.com/forumdisplay.php?forumid=4 , it’s the production forum for perhaps the largest dnb site… some skillful people there, worth a visit.

    thanks for your suggestions!

http://fr.audiofanzine.com/ : Yeah, French, but English version available: http://en.audiofanzine.com/.

I don’t know the English one, but the french one is THE website for home-studio and pro audio technology. Tons of news & reviews, a huge database community-built, and good forums.

"Ian is that rare thing amongst technicians; a bona fide musician able to appreciate 'the major lift and the minor fall' - whilst simultaneously noticing frequencies only audible to dogs. He answers my queries, rather than presenting his own."
